Open secret !!

Yesterday, I was just curious about the result of US presidential election. So the moment I opened a news website, Obama greeted with a big smile. I thought, "Okay, understood Mr. Obama ! You are going to lead the world's youngest democracy for another four years." After sometime, when I was closing the window, another news item appeared. "Obama's election not good for IT industry", CEO of an Indian IT company commented.

I got a question in my mind, "Really??". Then, immediate next question was that whose election would have been good. Mitt Romney’s? My answer to this question was “Doesn’t matter!!”. Do I need to be a political analyst and industry expert to provide answer to this question? I guess my common sense and experience should be more than sufficient to arrive at that answer. Here is my logic.

We have reached such a state that no political party can dare change policies based on ideology. There were times when parties, politics and government were driven by ideologies. Domestic, economic and foreign policies used to reflect the ideology of the ruling parties. Political parties and successive governments, succumbing to backdoor lobbying and pressure by investors, businessmen and corporates, moved away from ideological governance.  At the same time, people, driven by practical pressures of “struggle for existence” stopped following ideologies. ( The most forgotten ideology is humanity :-(  )

We are living in a world where wars waged to help multi-national companies that dig oil and companies that make fighter aircrafts, tankers and ammunition. In this scenario, can one person (read Head of Government), no matter how honest, committed and strong he/she may be, bring any difference in something he believes in? At least, till sometime back, we used to feel governments were being run by administrators. Then, it started looking like governments went into the handed over to some “invisible hands”. But now, it is an open secret.

As Paulo Coelho says in The Alchemist, “When you really want something to happen, the whole universe conspires so that your wish comes true.” Now the order of the world is, “When someone, other than general public, really wants something to happen, the whole government conspires so that their wish comes true”. If xxxxx company wants to outsource jobs, it will be done. If zzzzzz company wishes to dig oil, some PLAN should be made. SEZs can be made, farm lands can be acquired or anything can happen.

So, to conclude, I do not know if there will be some impact on IT industry or not but definitely there will not be absolutely no impact on Indian media industry. Some websites that carried Obama’s news also had news item like this "Bigg Boss 6: You are a doormat, says Sapna Bhavnani to Rajev Paul". I think benevolence of our media, that gives space to people who call each other as doormat or toilet flush or used razor, will never it go down ;-) .
